February is here and the count down has begun! We are focusing all our attention on getting the 3rd—5th grade students ready for the SBAC which determines whether our schools make the Annual Yearly Progress that they need to each year. Believe it or not, every grade level is working on getting the students up to and above grade level so each student is ready for the SBAC tests when s/he gets there! You can always help us by reading with your child NIGHTLY, checking his/her homework and coming in to volunteer in the classroom! You’d be amazed at how much of an impact you have on your children’s education when you spend time with them at school. Our doors are always open and we look forward to seeing you in the classrooms soon! Since February is the month of love, let me say that we love having your child(ren) at BMES. Each one of them offers a different perspective on life and can brighten our days in a variety of ways! Thank you for sharing your children with us here at BMES. They truly are treasures! Second graders experience a watershed education program on a beautiful day at the park. It was sponsored by the Nevada Outdoor School Education Program.

Reminder: Children may not be at school more than 10 minutes before their class begins. This includes afternoon Kindergarten and Developmental Kindergarten. Supervision is only provided at 7:40 and 11:55. Even if you are watching your child from your car, other parents assume there is playground supervision. Therefore, children are not allowed on the playground before 7:40 or 11:55. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. SAFETY CONCERN Parents, please go to the school office, not the classroom, when picking up your child from inside the building. Teachers cannot release a student to a parent directly from the classroom. At the end of the day, teachers walk their students outside to release to parents. Please wait outside until students are released, so the teacher will know your child is picked up safely. This simple procedure protects your child. Classroom visits must be prearranged with the classroom teacher. Younger siblings are NOT allowed at school during the school day. This includes classroom parties. In addition, please remember to check in with the office before you go to your child’s classroom, or to the lunch room. Should I keep my child home??? With the flu/cold season coming upon us, please remember the following when deciding whether to keep your child home from school or not. If your child has a fever: This is the body’s way of destroying the germs making it sick. A fever typically means a temperature above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. If your child is vomiting or has diarrhea: Please keep your child home and be sure your child keeps hydrated with fluids while having diarrhea or vomiting. If your child is coughing badly or having any sort of breathing trouble: Coughing spreads the infection. A child with mild symptoms, no fever, and generally feeling well may be fine at school. A child with a deep or uncontrollable cough belongs at home even without a fever. If your child has a rash that is spreading: Check with your doctor to determine whether the rash is contagious before sending your child to school. If your child has an eye that is red, itching, painful, and with colored drainage: This is usually conjunctivitis, “pink eye”, and is highly contagious. The treatment is antibiotic eye drops and your child will be able to return to school 24 hours after the eye drops are started. If your child has strep throat: He/she may return 24 hours after the antibiotics are started. Feel free to call the school nurse, Mrs. Green, at 635-2889 with any questions! Are you looking for ways to support the schools and don’t know what to do? Here are a couple of ideas to help us raise money that take little effort. Box Tops for Education-Anytime you use a product with the “Box Tops for Education” label on the box, Cut them out and send ‘em in! We’ll do the rest. Thanks for helping out! Please be mindful of the changing winter weather conditions when helping your child dress for school. It is important that they be allowed to run off their extra energy at recess. Coats, hats, boots, and gloves will help them stay warm and dry so they can go back to class comfortable and ready to focus and learn Battle Mountain PTA Needs Volunteers!Make a difference in your child’s school by being involved in PTA.
Many people don’t realize how many programs we are accustomed to, are sponsored by PTA. Our children have R.I.F., Watch DOGS, Muffins with Moms, and scholarships because of PTA. They also support teachers with a meal during conferences and an appreciation breakfast at the beginning of the year. School Bells
